An Open Letter to our Future House Guests
Dear Future House Guest,
Welcome. Sort of. Before you even cross the threshold, there are a few truths you should know. This house is messy. Always. Not in a careless way, but in the beautifully chaotic way that comes from living fully, with tiny humans who leave traces of themselves everywhere.
Toys have a tendency to wander into every corner. Half-eaten snacks leave trails like modern art. And yes, laundry piles are a thing. Multiple baskets of it. Folded, somewhat. Organized, occasionally. But these are signs of the beautiful mess of life, a family living, learning, and loving each other while trying to keep the basics afloat. You may not see crayons on the walls yet, but with a toddler and a cyber-schooler running the show, anything is possible.
Here is the thing. Our floors are sacred. Tiny hands and legs crawl, toddle, and play here every day. That is why we ask, with a mix of hope and gentle insistence, that you remove your shoes at the door. It is not just a habit. It is a little armor for our little ones against the dirt, germs, and random debris that shoes inevitably bring in. We want this floor as clean as humanly possible because every patch of it is a stage for discovery, imagination, and tiny adventures.
You might notice a high chair parked in a corner, baby blankets draped over chairs, or a sippy cup mysteriously left on a side table. You might hear giggles, shouts, or the occasional crash of something being knocked over. We don’t apologize for the noise or the mess. They are proof that we are here, present, and loving fiercely. But we do apologize that it’s never quite “picture-perfect.”
We apologize, and yet we do not. This is the house we have built. It is warm, chaotic, a little sticky sometimes, and full of love. We are inviting you into it not because it is perfect, but because it is real. Here, you can kick off your shoes, step lightly, and feel like part of our little world even if it comes with a stray toy underfoot or a crumb trail in the kitchen.
So if you come seeking tidy lines and minimalist perfection, you may be slightly disappointed. If you come expecting warmth, laughter, and a home where tiny humans roam freely and life is messy and beautiful, then congratulations, you are exactly where you belong.
We are grateful you’re here, and we promise you this: you will be welcomed with open arms, a cup of coffee or tea, and the kind of chaos that leaves footprints on your heart.
Barefoot or not, we hope you feel at home here.
With love, laughter, and a little bit of dirtless magic,
Signed,
Jalyn
